Paul’s 1970 Mini Retro Build
Paul’s 1970 Mini Retro Build
Portfolio
Paul had bought this Mini in a semi derelict state where some previous repair work had been done. The Mini had also been left out under a sheet in damp conditions and there was a lot of surface rust present. Paul had an image of a Mini in his mind of what he wanted to build and so we were tasked to carry out the build for him. In similar fashion to Gail & Tony’s Mini, we went about a full body and mechanical strip down and rebuild and again, adding some more updated features such as Cooper disc brakes and a later type brake servo. We sourced a 1275 engine that was in need of overhaul and on stripping it down we found that it had once been rebuilt by the specialist engine builder Avonbar. We carried out the overhaul to the engine and gearbox and again painted it in the darker shade of Mid Bronze Green as a nod to the Mini’s 1970 heritage. Paul wanted a retro rally look and on the inside we fitted a safety device roll cage and a period correct map reading light. To give some more updated features to the mini we fitted an heated windscreen and heated seats. To finish off on the outside, a period set of Cooper S wheels were fitted, original NOS Lucas driving lamps and a period roof rack with spare wheel fitted onto it. A very pleasing project for us to have been involved with.
